SDVOSB certification

Service-disabled veterans have a powerful federal designation. Most never pair it with the contract vehicle that lets buyers find them.

What SDVOSB is

A Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business is a small company that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more veterans with a service-connected disability. Certification is handled by the SBA's veteran certification program, and the designation makes a firm eligible for federal set-asides and sole-source awards reserved for service-disabled veterans. Federal agencies also carry a government-wide goal for spending with these firms.

The under-used advantage

Many veteran-owned firms build their federal work around veterans-focused buying and never enter the wider marketplace. A MAS contract changes that. Buyers researching schedule holders can filter by SDVOSB status, which puts you in front of agencies far beyond any one program. In the data we track, SDVOSB firms show some of the highest average schedule sales among small businesses, with especially strong results in industrial products, IT, and human capital and training.

How we help

  • Review your ownership, control, and disability documentation for eligibility gaps
  • Assemble the application and supporting records
  • Respond to the SBA's follow-up questions
  • Coordinate with your MAS application so the designation is reflected across your federal profiles

Who qualifies

You will need proof of service-connected disability status, and evidence that the veteran owner truly controls the company. That means holding the highest officer position, being responsible for day-to-day management, and having final say on major decisions. Complicated ownership structures, partners, or outside investors need careful review before applying, and we will tell you plainly if the structure will not clear.

Programs and rules for veteran certification have changed in recent years. We verify the current requirements with you before you apply.
